Arizona Lifestyle Medicine Institute (AZLM)

About AZLM

Our Story

The Arizona Lifestyle Medicine Institute (AZLM) grew out of a simple frustration: after years of practicing direct primary care, Dr. Kendrick Johnson kept running into the limits of what a single office visit — or a single practice — can do for a patient's long-term health. Treating what shows up in the exam room wasn't enough. The bigger opportunity was further upstream: helping people change the behaviors that lead to disease in the first place, and building a better system for training the physicians who will help them do it. AZLM is that upstream effort — research, training, and tools built to reach people and providers far beyond any one practice.

Our Mission

To empower health and happiness — by helping people change the behaviors that shape their health, and by training the physicians and students who will help them do it.

Dr. Johnson is a direct primary care physician who founded the Arizona Lifestyle Medicine Institute to move medicine further upstream — turning years of one-on-one behavior-change work into research, resources, and training that can help far more people and providers.

Daegan Piequet

Student Director

"I am a premedicine student with a passion for lifestyle medicine. As I have progressed in my journey to becoming a physician, I have come to appreciate that healthcare is multifaceted. While treating illness is essential, I believe that some of the greatest opportunities in medicine come from the prevention of disease before it begins and empowering people to take an active role in their health. My experiences in research, clinical care, and my education have strengthened my passion for helping others grow to understand the connection between life choices and long-term health."
